Here is a perfect example on why it's important to upkeep your garage especially your rollers. In the left video shows older rollers that have worn out, rusted, and bearings are shot. Take a moment to listen to the rollers squalling and the how difficult it is for the garage to move. 

Now take a minute and watch the video on the right. You will see and hear the difference on how the door moves effortlessly with minimal noise. 

To get the longest life out of your opener have properly running rollers. Keep them lubricated and inspected. During your inspection if you hear the bearings or grinding noise replace them with nylon rollers.

This fantastic elderly couple had been in the garage when it had snapped, luckily no one was hurt. Once I received the parts I had them back up and running with safety cables.

When these extension springs break without a safety cable I hope you can move like a butterfly because they will sting like a bee.

Before Installing Your Opener

Before installing a garage opener an inspection should be done on the garage door. Is the door balanced, how does the door cycle up and down, does the door have support on all four corners, and more? This door had several issue's that needed to be addressed before installing the opener. Especially since this is the first opener the garage has ever seen. The pictures show no support for the back hangers of the garage, if left alone the door could fall off the track.

If you're buying a opener from a big box store be sure to have a garage tech inspect your garage door. I would be happy to schedule a tune up with you.

Spring changes are extremely dangerous and can kill you. Setting a garage door spring isn't something you can truly learn over a couple YouTube video's. Yes, it may function but not properly. A garage door that hasn't been set properly will destroy a perfectly good opener. Every garage door is given a specific Inch Pounds Per Turn IPPT. Which means not every spring can fit your garage door.

Replacing garage door springs isn't something I would recommend doing but if you do take into consideration the IPPT and properly setting the garage door.
